JUBILEE CELEBRATIONS!

A CELEBRATION LUNCH IN THE JUBILEE HALL

A Celebration Lunch was held on Wednesday 12th June to thank everyone who had been actively involved in the project over the years. About sixty people came including past and present trustees, local supporters and representatives of the bodies which have given funding to the Hall through grants. The Chair of Oxfordshire County Council, the Vice-Chair of South Oxfordshire District Council and the Lord Lieutenant of Oxfordshire, Sir Hugo Brunner also came.

Everyone expressed very positive views about the Hall and their relief, amazement and pleasure that the Hall is finished at last. The lunch itself was a collaborative effort by the trustees and friends. It was delicious and enjoyed by all. The trustees would like to thank everyone who helped to make the occasion such a great success.

JUBILEE LADS AND LASSIES FOOTBALL NIGHT

Lewknor Lads and Lassies had a Jubilee Fun Night of football on a lovely Thursday evening. Teams were picked by Nathan Martin and Samuel Black and after many goals the game ended 5-5.

Then the Lads and Lasses took on the Mums and Dads, with the Lads and Lasses scoring through Nathan Martin and William Carroll, but TWO stunning goals from Mum Caroline Hjorth made it 2-2 with the next goal wins and Kelly Martin scoring the winning goal for the Mums and Dads.

Thank you again to everyone who took part or supported a FUN Night.

JUBILEE JAZZ TO OFFICIALLY OPEN THE PARISH HALL

Saturday 15th June saw Jessie Purnell, who had been involved with the Jubilee Hall for over thirty years, cut the jolly yellow and blue ribbons to officially open our new Parish Hall. To the sound of 'Congratulations' played by the Heart of England Jazz Band, Jessie snipped the ribbons and so ended what must have been the longest wait for a Parish Hall in Britain!

Over three hundred people attended the event at which Church Road organised a great barbeque...many thanks to the residents for all their hard work and culinary skills producing such delicious food. Many thanks to the bar team, David Carroll, Murray Graham and Justin Williams who did a marvellous job organising the bar, which kept busy all evening and made a great profit for the hall - as did the barbeque. Many thanks to all the people involved.

The Jazz Band, appropriately dressed in their union flag waistcoats, which matched the red, white and blue bunting and decorations in the hall, played brilliantly and entertained the villagers for several hours. Later a great disco carried the evening on until eleven o'clock.

It was lovely to see both young and old enjoying themselves so much. One particularly warming sight was that of a father with a very young sleeping baby on his shoulder bopping the night away! The school were kind enough to leave their marvellous decorations up for the evening, so many thanks to all the children who made them. The portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II was particularly striking, as was the beautiful picture of the State Carriage and Buckingham Palace. Home made Union Flag bunting completed the decorations with a marvellous flourish. Well done to all the children at the school. The hall is now ready for use, the scale of fees is in this copy of Grapevine, so cut it out and keep it on your notice board and let's get the hall full with interesting and exciting activities. All those people who asked for activities in the questionaire a couple of years ago need to come forward so that we can get them organised and up and running. It's up to you now!

'FUN' GAMES AFTERNOON AROUND THE HALL

The final day of the Jubilee Celebrations was a 'Fun' Games afternoon around the hall. Everyone brought a picnic and plenty to drink! It started quite sedately with egg and spoon for the children, but as you can imagine once the adults got in on the act the word 'cheating' was widely used! As for the skipping and sack races, the less said the better! The weather was kind to us, and we kept warm with rounders and more football, it was a great way to end a fantastic week, and thank you to everyone who made the celebrations fun.

KRAKATOA PRE-SCHOOL

This half-term will be a our last based at Lewknor School, as from September the Pre-School sessions will be held in the Jubilee Hall.

All of us who have had children at Krakatoa will have many fond memories of Lewknor School, the children, staff and activities we've shared.

We will be maintaining our bond with the school, as 'over - 4's' will continue to be held on Monday mornings at school and we also hope to be involved in some of the more traditional aspects of the school - life, such as Friday morning assemblies. We also hope that the school will be participants in some of our future activities.

There will be a presentation to Mrs Hague on Tuesday 9th July, as a thank you to the school.

Just before half-term we received news that we had been awarded grants from 3 providers which is wonderful news, as it means that we can furnish and equip the Pre-School with some fantastic items.

The grants were awarded from:

Awards for All (Lottery Grant)

Oxfordshire Community Foundation

Oxfordshire County Council

As you can imagine this news has been a huge boost to us all and will help to ensure the future success of Krakatoa

Krakatoa will start at the Jubilee Hall on Tuesday 10th September at 9.00am. If you haven't been advised of a place for your child or want further information phone Denise KB 281367 or Penny KB 3532727.

Before then there is the much talked about Ferret Racing Evening (they are contained in a run!) which promises to be a funfilled evening. So if Ascot, Towcester or Cheltenham aren't in your diary put this one in : Friday 12th July 7.30pm

NEWS FROM LEWKNOR SCHOOL

Dear Readers, Well thanks to the children in year 5 and 6 we have managed to celebrate the Golden Jubilee in style. We had a fantastic party which was opened in the new village hall by Lady Getty. This is what the children in Year 2 & 3 had to say about it:-

Last Friday we had a wonderful coronation assembly in the church and I played the part of the Queen. I held the orb and the two sceptres and I got crowned. We went through the whole ceremony. Afterwards we went back to our classrooms and we had a Royal Drawing Competition.

Later at 11 o'clock we walked up to the hall and when Lady Getty arrived me and Hugo Dormer gave her a huge bouquet of flowers.

Then we had a fancy dress parade and Louise Hjorth and Louise Hague helped Lady Getty to choose the winners. Afterwards we played some really exciting games like "Put the diamond on the crown" and "Throw the balls through the palace window"

Then we all sat down to eat a delicious lunch- there was plenty of tooting and laughing as well!

Laura Nunn aged 8

At our School Jubilee Party there were lots of games made by Miss William's class. My best one was "Throw the ball through the palace window". There was lots of cheering as groups won their games! Our team came second overall.

The food was wonderful and brilliant as well. There were sausage rolls and crisps and little sausages too, it was really good fun.

And when it was time to go we all got Jubilee coins and tooters to take home.

Hugo Dormer aged 6

Last Friday we did a school play in the church all about Queen Elizabeth II's coronation and Laura Nunn was the Queen.

Then we had a good party. We had to walk up to the hall at 11 o'clock and then Lady Getty came and started the party. It was all really excellent.

Thomas Bishop aged 8

Last Friday we had a fantastic coronation assembly. Our class dressed up as different people from the coronation. There were Swordsmmmmen, the Archbishop of Canterbury, Lords, Royal Trumpeters and the Queen. We also made a shining orb, two sceptres, two armlets and the eagle pot that hoi;lds the annointing spoon that the oil is poured into.

After the assembly there was a party at the Jubilee Hall and lady Getty came and opened the party. We played four different games. I liked "Royal Bowling" and "Pass the Crown".

Charlotte Kotvics aged 7

At the party we all played lots of wonderful games. My favourite game was the "Royal Treasure Hunt". We had to follow the clues around the field and find the crown jewels.

Afterwards we had lots of delicious party food and in the middle of lunch one of the oldest boys in our school got up and sang a songg and we all got up and danced. With our party tooters we got hats as well. I had an excellent time.

Mikey Barker aged 8

We are going to be having a Music Concert in the Jubilee Hall on Thursday 11th July at 6.30pm - you're all invited so please come!

Kilvrough Manor

On Monday 20 May Year 5 - 6 set off to Kilvrough Manor. It took 3 hours to get there, but it was worth it when we saw the big black and white house, it was gorgeous and I just knew it was going to be a fantastic week!We were introduced to the Kilvrough staff who took us to our dorms. After this we were put into groups. I was in group B. Dave, who was one of the instructors took us for our first activity which was orienteering; this was really good because it gave us an opportuntiy to explore the gardens.

On Tuesday we did rock climbing and abseiling. It was great fun; I nearly fell in a hole. On Wednesday we did rock pooling. We caught about 20 crabs, including a hermit crab. On Thursday we did coastal river work. It was the only day that it didn't rain but School news - continued my wellies filled up with river water. On Friday we did body boarding. It was fun but very hard.

Friday came really quickly and it was time to go. I took a quick picture of the wonderful house. Then on to the bus and home we went. I will never forget the fantastic week I had at Kilvrough Manor.

I LOVE KILVROUGH MANOR !!!!!!!!!!

Netball

On Thursday 29 May the netball team went to play a match of five-aside netball at Stadhampton Primary School. When we arrived all the teams (Lewknor, Tetsworth and Stadhampton) were practising up by the netbasll posts.

Our first match was against Tetsworth. They were a brilliant team and they made us work very hard! The score was 4-1 to them.

At half time some of us swapped position but we were on for the whole match. The last team we played against was Stadhampton. They were brilliant as well. The score was 5-0 to them. When the matches were over there was a little presentation and they announced that Stadhampton had won overall. We had a great time and we all played really well.

LEWKNOR PARISH COUNCIL

The restrictions sought by the South Oxfordshire District Council on the activities of the London Parachute School which operates from Moor court Farm, Lewknor, have not been confirmed by the Government. The parish council is very disappointed indeed about this decision because it removes the opportunity to resolve some of the problems of noise caused by the aircraft used for parachuting through the channel of a planning application to SODC.

The decision letter sent to SODC by the Government Officer for the South East gives very little information about the reasons for not confirming SODC's action. In fact it raises several questions about what evidence was considered and what weight was given to some of the evidence presented. The parish council is trying to arrange meetings with the Government Minister concerned and with the Acting Director of GOSE to discuss the background to the decision and possible future action. SODC is also considering what further action to take.

The parish council's objective over several years has been to achieve a fairer situation regarding parachuting. At present parachuting can take place every weekend in the season between April and October. The parish council's hope was that these weekends could be shared, with parachuting able to take place on two weekends a month leaving the other two weekends free for local residents and visitors to the area to enjoy their own, quieter, pursuits. The parish council will continue to make every effort to achieve this longer term outcome.

ICKNIELD WAY

The parish council has become increasingly concerned about the state of the Icknield Way between Chinnor and Watlington. The track is being badly damaged by 4X4 vehicles even though drivers are asked to respect the track and not use it in winter months. The result is that this very ancient track has been so badly damaged in places that local people are avoiding using it because it is in a dangerous state. Local parish councils are supporting the campaign by The Friends of the Ridgeway to ban motor vehicles, except agricultural vehicles, from using the track. To support the campaign The Friends are trying to find photographs of the track before the damage was caused. They will then be able to take photographs from the same location showing how the situation has
